I have an ASUS U56E Laptop that after a while of being turned on will loose wireless connection and give me an error. I have looked around for a solution (e.g. if there is a driver that I need to install) but have had no luck. This is happening on a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.10.
The connection will drop sometimes and give me this error. Or when starting my laptop, It will simply just not work at all and I will still get the same error.

Add this:
options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=N
to /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf.

sudo service network-manager restart
If this still doesn't work, try
sudo apt-get purge network-manager
then
sudo apt-get install network-manager
I had significant issues with wifi on an Intel 8265.
The solution was to disable power management on the device.
